Boxcar Astronaut #82

Okay admit it, you ate some Play-Doh as a kid. I mean, come on…we all did! When you popped the lid on a fresh, brand new can, there was just something about the smell of that stuff that made it strangely irresisitable. The Play-Doh smell is one of the great all-time smells in the history of creation, something that can instantly transport you back to the surface of a play table at age six with one whiff. Hopefully this strip featuring the boys playing with some nice squishy clay and Caveman devouring it and making a mess of himself brought you all right back as well!

P.S. I was never able to make anything as cool as what Marc drew in that second panel. Mostly I made multi-colored blobs that would try to eat my Star Wars figures. I also sucked at building things with Legos. Darn those infernal bricks!

Tyrannical Teddy Bears!

August 23rd, 2008

What do you get when you cross a pint-sized North Korean dictator with a pint-sized imaginary surly teddy bear? Why, “Clov Jong-il” of course! Marc’s a big fan of Lucas Turnbloom’s Imagine This, a webcomic about a guy and his two walking, talking childhood stuffed animals Clovis the Bear and Dewey the Dinosaur. He whipped up this fan art of the cantankerous Clovis, and Mr. Turnbloom was nice enough to post it up at the Imagine this site. If you haven’t had the opportunity to check out this very creative comic, you ‘re definitely missing out on a lot of fun!

Greetings fellow astronauts, and welcome to the all-new Boxcar Astronaut website! As you can see, things look a little different around here now that we’ve moved over to a spiffy-keen ComicPress layout. Things are much less cluttered now and if you look over at the left sidebar, you’ll find a full arrary of helpful links and shortcuts to the monthly archives, other webcomics we enjoy, RSS feeds, links to our personal and sketch blogs, our Myspace page, and lots more. Above the comic you’ll find the usual info about the strip, the characters, our short biographies, etc. Please keep in mind the site is a work in progress, so there will be lots more changes and improvements coming down the pike. Marc’s Pinkerton Guest Strip!

August 15th, 2008

Hey boys and girls! It’s guest strip week over at one of our favorite webcomics, Pinkerton by Mike Witmer, and today’s guest strip is by none other than our very own Marc Lapierre! Marc did a fabulous, fully-colored homage to the Fab Four featuring the fuzzy inhabitants of Pinkerton National Park! So far, the comments section for Marc’s guest turn has been lit up with lots of glowing praise for his work, and rightly so! Click on the panel below to see the full version of Marc’s “very clean” Pinkerton guest strip!

Pinkerton Fan Art

June 17th, 2008

Hey gang! A few days ago when I went over to Marc’s place for our weekly “creative pow-wow” for all things Boxcar Astronaut, he showed me this very entertaining piece of fan art that he did for our good buddy Mike Witmer, caretaker of the zany residents of Pinkerton Park. It features Steve, a misguided Guinea Pig who thinks he’s a moose (hence the spoon and fork ‘antlers’ tied to his cute lil’ noggin), interacting with everyone’s favorite imaginative little kid who thinks he’s a spaceman (hence the helmet). Wit was nice enough to post Marc’s art over on Pinkerton’s blog, so head on over and check it out, and while you’re there, be sure to read some very funny Pinkerton strips.
